Digital Negs

With all of my wedding collections you can opt to have either a disc of digital negatives or a standard album featuring 20 pages to start with. If you opt for an album package the digital negatives can still be purchased as an extra. All digital negatives are licensed for you own personal use and so they can’t be used commercially.

There is a definite trend towards digital negatives currently because people feel safer having a copy of their own set of wedding photographs. However I feel there are still many misconceptions about what they are and what you can do with them.

What are Digital Negatives?

These are image files taken almost straight from camera. In essence they are just like film negatives. They are the raw starting point of your photographs. This raw data has lots of potential if you have the equipment and ‘know how’ to draw it out. What you have seen on my website, in my galleries, blog, and in my albums are NOT digital negatives. The images you have viewed have gone through my full post production process to draw out of the creative potential of the photographs displayed.

Why do you Want Them?

You want them because you feel safe having a copy of your wedding photographs, you want to provide relatives and friends with prints, you want to post your wedding photographs on the internet, and you may want to produce your own wedding album. You are free to use the images as you want just as long as it is for personal use only. If you would like to submit the images to a wedding magazine then I will be happy to do this for you. Please remember that these negatives have not gone through a full post production process and so will not have the look or feel of any images I may have worked on.

What Can’t you do?

Only you have the right to reproduce the photographs and you can’t transfer this right to anyone else. This means that you can’t email the digital negatives to friends to print as they don’t have the right to reproduce them. However you can print the photographs yourself and then send gift prints to friends and family. You can’t sell the images or supply them to other wedding vendors  or magazines as I am the only person authorised to do this. However I am happy to do this for you and so will contact vendors and magazines if supplied with their details. I am happy to consider any special requests and so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have a specific use in mind.
