Art-working
My post production process can be quite simple or indepth depending on the image and what I feel needs to be done to bring out its full potential. Many people ask me what does my photo editing entail. This is a truly difficult question to answer but here are a few examples of what it can mean and there are visual examples below;
adjusting white balance
increading or decreasing contrast
adjusting hue and saturation
selective colour editing
converting images to black & white
applying tones
applying textures
skin smoothing
body shaping
cropping
adding vignettes
opening closed eyes
reducing ‘red eye’
erasing distactions in the foreground and background
applying gradients
‘dodging’ and ‘burning’
removing blemishes
Each image is assessed to ascertain its full potential and so the appropriate post production techniques are applied. At it’s most simple – contrast, colour balance, sharpening and cropping are always applied and so at least 10 minutes minimum is spent on each photograph. What this means is that it would take me over 50 hours to just perform basic post production on a wedding with 300 images. I do a lot more than this to most images and so to get a set of consistent images that I am totally happy with will take me at least 8 days and usually longer as i frequently shoot over 300 images. Please look at the before and after examples below to see just how important this process can be to the visual impact of your wedding photography.
